As many are aware, the vaccine rollout in Japan has been a lot slower than a lot of countries. As a result, many of the residents here, both Non-Japanese and Japanese alike have been hearing a lot about how friends and family have already had both doses, and at the same time wondering when they will finally be offered the same choice.
Getting it or not is the individual’s prerogative, and if you are not interested in it, no issue. But if you do want to get it, and don’t understand or read a lot of Japanese, it can be difficult to know where to go for information, so I have tried to put the information I could find together, in one simple post.
Oct 2021 Update
Since around mid September 2021, there have been a number of news articles on Japan booster shots which should start being offered to the general public in early 2022. And at the moment, it looks like they are looking at offering it to those that have already completed 2 doses, and 8 months has passed since the second dose was taken.

Websites and documents
The Ministry of Health Labour and Welfare has an English page where English speakers can refer to a number of things.
Currently there seems to be two main ways to get vaccinated; one through the local municipal government, and the other through on-site company or university vaccinations.
There is a third way but that involves waiting for reservation cancellations.
Type ワクチンキャンセル待ち+the area you live in.
Disclaimer: I do not know how well the third method works.

Unfortunately there isn’t a lot of information on this in English, but if you do read Japanese, or can translate it using a translation tool, try googling ワクチン接種スケジュール+the area you live in.
You can also find out which medical institutions are handling the vaccinations in your area by using this website. The site is only in Japanese though.
